Lyric Opera of Kansas City – The Flying Dutchman
We were absolutely delighted to bring to life the infamously eerie phantom ship in Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman for the Lyric Opera’s 2012 production. Venice Communications, in collaboration with Wide Awake Films, worked closely and creatively with the Lyric’s design team, building a three-dimensional animated ship that would be replicated onstage with wood and nails. To get the right look, our creative director extensively researched shipbuilding techniques of the time and found inspiration in the real-life sets of silent films, like Nosferatu.
